Neighborhood-Police Partnerships: A Proposal for New York City

With an eye on advancing the New York City Police Department's (NYPD) stated mission "to work in partnership with communities," on January 9, 2003, an inter-faith coalition and Advancement Project met with the NYPD's Deputy Commissioner of Community Affairs to present their plan of action - Neighborhood-Police Partnerships: A Proposal for New York City. The Coalition called on the Deputy Commissioner to set up a meeting with Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly during which members of the Coalition would solicit Kelly's support for the concept of neighborhood-police partnerships, and request Kelly's assistance with the creation of a working group comprised of religious leaders, community activists and police that would meet and take steps to implement the plan.
