DON’T BE LEFT OUT!
PENNSYLVANIA HAS A “CLOSED” PRIMARY ELECTION

A “CLOSED” PRIMARY? To vote in the primary on April 22, 2008, you must have a party affiliation on file with the voter registrar.

NOT JUST ANY POLITICAL PARTY WILL DO. In a closed primary, you can only vote for candidates within your party.

Therefore, in order to vote for a presidential candidate on April 22, 2008 you must belong to one of the parties represented by the candidates.

YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR PARTY AFFILIATION. You can change your voter registration information to select a political party or change your party affiliation.

  • You can make the change in person at your local registrar’s office.
  • Or, you can make the change on a voter registration application, marking the box for “change of party” in Box 2 of the form and then selecting a party in Box 9, and mail the application to your registrar’s office.

All changes must be submitted by the voter registration deadline of March 24, 2008.

LOCAL ISSUES. You can vote in non-partisan races and local issues regardless of your party affiliation.

BE CERTAIN.
Your voter registration card tells you which party you are registered with. If you do not have a card, call your registrar to double-check your party affiliation.
