WASHINGTON -- Late last month, Advancement Project released its report Provisional Voting: Fail-Safe Voting or Trapdoor to Disenfranchisement which has since received media attention throughout the nation. The report was written following in-depth analysis of public records related to provisional ballots cast in the 2006 general election in Ohio and Florida. The data showed significant overuse and misuse of provisional ballots that disenfranchised thousands of voters. Advancement Project made numerous recommendations for reforms in Florida and Ohio to improve the use of provisional ballots so voters are not disenfranchised in the 2008 general election and in future elections.
