Statement on White Extremist Rally and Terrorist Attack

Trump has encouraged violence against protestors in his rallies, and today was an extension of that hatred.

Washington — Following a weekend of racism on full display in Charlottesville and a terrorist attack that claimed a life, Advancement Project, a national racial justice organization, released the following statement:

“The heinous showings of racism in Charlottesville are despicable,” said Judith Browne Dianis, Executive Director of Advancement Project’s national office. “This racism is nothing new. No hoods were involved but the racist venom was the same. Unfortunately, people calling for peace and unity became targets of this racism and we mourn the loss of life and hope for recovery of those injured.”

“Importantly, racism and terrorist attacks such as today’s are encouraged by racist statements, innuendos, and hiring decisions made by the Trump administration. Trump has encouraged violence against protestors in his rallies, and today was an extension of that hatred.”

“It is not enough to condemn one racist rally or act of violence. We must all use our voices to condemn the whole of systemic racism.”

More Cop Convictions Won’t Stop Racist Police Violence

By Thomas B. Harvey, Justice Project Program Director Last week, as people across America waited for a verdict in Derek Chauvin’s trial, police in Ohio murdered a 16-year-old girl, Ma’Khia Bryant. As Chauvin was found guilty on three counts for murdering George Floyd in Minneapolis, Ma’Khia Bryant lay dead in the street in Columbus. Credit: Fred Moon While we should hope that Chauvin’s conviction brings some peace and healing to George Floyd’s family, friends, and the broader Minneapolis community, Ma’Khia’s murder reinforced a disturbing reality: individual convictions are irrelevant to the movement to end police violence. Cops will continue to…
