Statement from Advancement Project on Pence-Kobach Commission Meeting
Washington – Today, the Pence-Kobach Commission, known as the “Election Integrity Commission,” officially met in person for the first time. In response, Advancement Project released the following statement:
“Today’s meeting reinforced what we knew since the commission was announced,” said Judith Browne Dianis, Executive Director of Advancement Project’s national office. “This group would rather misdirect the public and stoke fears about alleged criminality and illegality in communities of color rather than solve problems. If the commission were worried about democracy, our lawyers, activists and fellow community members would be happy to show them how governments can eliminate barriers to the ballot.”
“There is no right more fundamental than the right to vote. Instead of working to make it harder for voters to make themselves heard, we should take down barriers to the ballot and make elections more fair and accessible.”
