TUTORIAL FOR NAVIGATING THE OFFICE OF CIVIL RIGHTS WEBSITE FOR EDUCATION DATA

GETTING THE DATA
Once on the webpage, make the following selections:
  1. Civil Rights Data
  2. 2000 Elementary & Secondary School Survey
  3. View the Data
  4. Reported Data
  5. Student Enrollment, student participation in gifted/talented programs, students enrolled in and needing LEP programs, and incidents of student discipline (Table 7/8)

SELECTING THE DATA
The data is classified in five ways:
  • State/district/school
  • Students
  • Data Categories
  • Sex
  • Race/Ethnicity

Each category has detailed elements within it. Click on each category on the left panel to select the elements desired. When all elements have been selected, select view report to see the results.

*Note: In order to select a district, click on the folder icon beside the state. Similarly, click on the icon beside the district to select a school within it.

Example:

Obtaining Data for the Certain Schools in Florida

  • Target School: Pahokee Middle School & Carver Middle School Palm Beach County, Florida
  • Data Desired: Enrollment and Expulsions by race and gender

STEPS:

  1. Select State/Dist/Schl on left panel
  2. Check the box beside Florida and click on icon
  3. Check the box beside ãPalm Beach county school districtä and click on the icon
  4. Check the box beside ãPahokeeä and ãCarverä Middle Schools
  5. Select ãStudentsä on the left panel or click on continue.
  6. Check the boxes beside ãNumber of Studentsä and ãPercentage of Studentsä
  7. Select ãData Categoriesä on the left panel or click on continue
  8. Click on the boxes beside ãEnrollmentä, ãOut of School Suspensionsä, ãTotal Expulsionsä, ãExpulsions- Total Cessation of Educational Servicesä, and/or ãExpulsions- Zero Tolerance Policiesä
  9. Select ãSexä on the left panel of click on continue
  10. Check the male and female boxes
  11. Select ãRace & Ethnicityä or click on continue
  12. Check all the boxes beside each race.
  13. Click on View Report to get the results.

PRINTING:

Reports can only be printed by category, and on legal paper. Go through the above steps however, select only one data category at a time. View the report and print. Selecting multiple categories will result in a part of the report being cut.
