The Asian Giving Circle, part of the Chicago Community Trust, is accepting grant proposals. The Asian Giving Circle is a donor-advised fund seeking to bring a new source of funding to nonprofit organizations serving the Asian American communities of metropolitan Chicago. Project topics eligible for funding include but are not restricted to organizational strategic planning and goal setting, staff and board development, increasing technological capacity, effective management, system accountability, organizational audit, financial management, improved governance, feasibility study for new programmatic areas, and building and diversifying fundraising base. Heckscher Foundation: Invites Letters of Inquiry

The Heckscher Foundation for Children will make several capacity-building grants by the end of 2007 — all dedicated to the development and implementation of measurement tools that determine by objective standards the efficacy of programs for young people. Because these will be one-time gifts, organizations should submit proposals for one or more of the following non-recurring costs: 1) creation of data collection systems and tools dedicated exclusively to measuring the effectiveness of programs in meeting stated goals; 2) alignment of outcomes with New York State, city, or other relevant criteria; and 3) third-party evaluations. Kessler Foundation: Grant Opportunities for People with Disabilities

Lexus and Scholastic: Launch Environmental Challenge Program

Lexus and Scholastic have joined to announce the creation of the Lexus Environmental Challenge, a program designed to educate and empower students to take action to improve the environment. National AIDS Fund: Request for Proposals

The National AIDS Fund, with support from the Ford Foundation and the Elton John AIDS Foundation, is pleased to announce a new grantmaking initiative entitledSouthern REACH (Regional Expansion of Access and Capacity to Address HIV/AIDS). In its first year, Southern REACH will provide over $1.3 million in grant resources to community-based organizations (CBOs) in nine southern states to broaden and strengthen community capacity to address HIV/AIDS among marginalized, at-risk, and underserved populations. This will be achieved through investments in the operations and programming of strategically positioned CBOs that have the demonstrated ability to reach priority populations with HIV prevention and care services or to lead policy and advocacy efforts that will impact priority populations. CBOs in Alabama, Arkansas, Northern Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee will be eligible in this first grant round. The National AIDS Fund will award 20-30 grants in three categories: 1) Organizational Support; 2) Program Support; and 3) Policy and Advocacy. The average grant size will be $45,000. An emphasis will be placed on reaching CBOs that have strong linkages to marginalized, at-risk, and underserved populations, which includes public health, social justice, and faith-based organizations that may not have HIV/AIDS work as their primary mission and may not access traditional HIV/AIDS funding sources.

San Francisco 49ers: To Honor Bay Area Nonprofit

The San Francisco 49ers will honor a San Francisco Bay Area nonprofit agency for exceptional outreach efforts to promote unity in the community with the first annual Perry/Yonamine Unity Award. The awards are named after former 49ers players Joe Perry and Wally Yonamine. In addition to a monetary grant in the amount of $10,000, the chosen nonprofit will receive recognition at a 49ers home game during the 2007 season, a Perry/Yonamine Unity Award plaque, and tickets for volunteers/employees to attend the game. United Health Group/PacifiCare: Providing New Grants to Benefit California Health Care Consumers

United Health Group/PacifiCare have announced they will fund $25 million in total new grants over the next three years to benefit health care consumers and improve the delivery of healthcare services in California. These new grants are part of PacifiCare/UnitedHealth Group’s commitments to California made in association with UnitedHealth Group’s acquisition of PacifiCare. Applicants must be entities that deliver healthcare services, facilitate the delivery of healthcare services (through information technology or some other means), or train healthcare professionals in California.
