Accounting Assistant
Campaign for America’s Future, Washington, DC
The Campaign for America’s Future (CAF) and the Institute for America’s Future (IAF) seek an Accounting Assistant responsible for processing accounts payable, preparing invoices for accounts receivable, processing daily deposits and other clerical accounting duties. This position will support the Department of Finance and Administration and report to the Controller. The Accounting Assistant works in the CAF/IAF Washington office. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in maintaining systems, procedures and methods for record keeping, cost gathering and reporting.
  • Aid in preparation of balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports.
  • Help analyze trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.
  • Offer suggestions about accounting policies and procedures, resource utilization, investment strategies, assumptions underlying budget forecasts.
  • Assist with budget preparation, modeling, reporting, and analysis.
  • Ensure accurate codes and charges for all encumbrances and disbursements.
  • Collect receipts, summarizes cost, and prepares monthly credit card statements for payment.
  • Manage timesheet process including creation, dissemination, collection of timesheets, and allocation of salary expense.
  • Interact with vendors, organizations, and public to answer questions and to resolve account and billing discrepancies.
  • Provides a variety of supportive services as directed by the Chief Operating Officer, Controller, or other senior staff.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other related duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of standard accounting concepts, practices, and procedures

Associate Online Producer

TheCampaign for America’s Future (CAF) and the Institute for America’s Future (IAF) seek an Associate Online Producer to assist in generating and managing content for organizational websites and emails. This person will use a combination of journalism and technology skills to help ensure that our websites capture and build interest in our mix of progressive causes, and move people to actively support those causes. This position is located in the CAF/IAF Washington office and reports to the Executive Editor of Online Communications. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Write and copy edit intros, summaries and headlines for web content (and for printed materials when required).
  • Publish Web content, using HTML formatting and other tools, to conform to website design.
  • Assist in the design of the websites and emails by researching or creating visual elements, audio and video, and integrating them appropriately into content.
  • Assist in gathering and reviewing content and in monitoring community forums.
  • Collect, organize, analyze, and present site traffic and usage statistics.

Qualifications:

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with a perfectionist’s attention to detail. (AP Stylebook mastery preferred.)

Deputy Director
Berkeley Center for Criminal Justice, University of California Berkeley
UC Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law is one of the nation's great centers for legal education, ever exploring and pushing new intellectual boundaries while tackling urgent, real-world issues. Boalt Hall is also known for its vibrant and engaged community of students and scholars who are committed to providing leadership and making a difference on problems of local, national, and global import. The mission of the Berkeley Center for Criminal Justice (BCCJ) is to research, develop, and advance innovative juvenile and criminal justice law and policy approaches through collaboration with and among scholars, policymakers, and practitioners. The center’s goals are to build broad-based coalitions that support and advance innovative, research-based juvenile and criminal justice law and policy approaches; support criminal justice research by faculty and students from Boalt, UC Berkeley and elsewhere and apply this research to pressing juvenile and criminal justice law and policy issues; and to train students at Boalt and UC Berkeley and scholars, policymakers and practitioners in the greater criminal justice community on innovative juvenile and criminal justice law and policy approaches. The Center’s primary substantive areas of focus are: Street violence reduction, policing and community policing, prison and reentry reform, drug policy reform, and juvenile justice. The Deputy Director will work under the direction of the Executive Director of the Berkeley Center for Criminal Justice. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Executive Director with all aspects of agency management.
  • With the Executive Director, manage BCCJ’s action-oriented research projects – including projects in the areas of street violence reduction and employment barriers to reentry.
  • Develop and manage BCCJ’s programming at Boalt – including major conferences, the Caleb Foote Symposium and the Criminal Justice Roundtables.
  • Develop and manage the BCCJ “Leadership Academy” to identify and train criminal justice leaders in law enforcement and the community and support collaborative criminal justice projects.
  • Oversee the implementation of BCCJ’s annual strategic plan.
  • Oversee the development of BCCJ’s annual budget.

  • Collaborate with the Alumni Relations and Development Office to coordinate fundraising activities.
  • Identify new funding sources for BCCJ’s work in its substantive focus areas.

  • With the Executive Director, oversee the development and implementation of BCCJ’s marketing and communications plan.
  • Serve as a BCCJ liaison to faculty and students at Boalt and academics, law enforcement officials and community groups in the greater criminal justice community.
  • Represent BCCJ at relevant meetings, forums and conferences.
  • Other duties as determined by the Executive Director.

Qualifications:

  • Law degree or relevant advanced degree with at least eight years experience in the criminal justice field
  • Significant managerial or supervisory experience in a public, non-profit, or academic organization
  • Track record of successful fundraising from federal, state, and private grant-making institutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with diverse groups including academics, law enforcement officials and community groups

Managing Attorney
The Virginia Justice Center for Farm and Immigrant Workers, Falls Church, VA
The Virginia Justice Center for Farm and Immigrant Workers (VJC), a program of the Legal Aid Justice Center, seeks a Managing Attorney in its Falls Church office. The Managing Attorney will help low-wage immigrant workers find justice and fair treatment in the workplace. To meet the clients’ goals, the VJC provides legal assistance; conducts community education, outreach and organizing; and pursues legislative advocacy. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage an office of two attorneys, two community organizers, a legal assistant, interns, and volunteers.
