The Community Justice Resource Center is dedicated to supporting the exciting movement among Community Organizers/Activists and Lawyers, to work together in the fight for equal justice. This Newsletter highlights information and resources that are available to assist lawyers AND community groups engaged in creative partnerships to advance racial and social justice ( we call this the 'Community Justice’ approach).

October 17, 2006: A Call to Action: Making the Case for South Asian Participation in the Social Justice Movement, Washington DC

Presented by the South Asian American Leaders of Tomorrow (SAALT), this event features Vanita Gupa, Esq., winner of the 2004 Reebok Human Rights Award and the American Red Cross “Rising Star” Award. SAALT is a national, nonprofit, staffed organization dedicated to fostering the full and equal participation of South Asians in American civic and political life. Attorney Gupa is currently with the American Civil Liberties Union working on cases aimed at improving access to justice and education for communities of color. Previously she was part of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. team which worked to overturn the wrongful drug convictions of 38 individuals in Tulia, Texas.
