Case Foundation: Make It Your Own Awards

The Case Foundation pursues sustainable solutions to complex social problems by investing in collaboration, leadership, and entrepreneurship. The foundation has launched the Make It Your Own Awards, a new grant program that aims to ignite citizen involvement in community problem-solving and in foundation grant making. Based on the belief that improving communities takes ongoing commitment and persistent action from the people who live in them, the awards program will provide funds to individuals, and individuals working with small organizations, who join together to imagine and implement innovative ideas and solutions that lay the groundwork for long-term social change. General Mills Foundation: Celebrating Communities of Color Grants

The grants, totaling $500,000, will be awarded to nonprofit organizations in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn., serving communities of color. Fifty $10,000 project grants will be given this year. The Celebrating Communities of Color grants are one-time project grants available to nonprofit organizations in the greater Twin Cities area. Grants will focus mainly on four areas: Social Service—supporting programs that strengthen families and promote a safe, nurturing environment for children and youth; Youth Nutrition and Fitness—supporting innovative programs that help improve nutrition and fitness behaviors; Education—supporting efforts that emphasize student academic achievement, particularly at the K-12 level; and Arts and Culture—supporting organizations that are leaders in their field as evidenced by their innovation, program quality, and contribution to their community. Norman Foundation: Accepting Letters of Inquiry for Environmental Justice Program

The Norman Foundation seeks to support "efforts that strengthen the ability of communities to determine their own economic, environmental, and social well being, and that help people control those forces that affect their lives." The foundation provides grants for general support, projects, and collaborative efforts. The foundation also welcomes innovative proposals designed to build the capacity of social change organizations working in its areas of interest. Pacific Gas and Electric Company: Grants for Local Economic Development Programs in Northern and Central California

Governmental agencies and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in PG&E's service area are eligible to apply for grants ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 each. In addition, organizations that are not governmental agencies or 501(c)(3) nonprofits can partner with qualifying organizations and apply as a team. Applications will be judged in two categories: economic development and community development. Examples of projects in the first category include those focused on business retention, business recruitment, and economic development training, conferences, studies, and reports. Rockefeller Foundation: New Orleans Rebuilding Fellowships

The Rockefeller Foundation has announced a $2.2 million grant to fund a series of fellowships designed to advance the redevelopment process in New Orleans. The Rockefeller Foundation Redevelopment Fellowships, to be administered by the Center for Urban Redevelopment Excellence at the University of Pennsylvania, will enable key redevelopment organizations in New Orleans to recruit talented urban redevelopment professionals both from New Orleans and from around the United States to work on the rebuilding process currently under way there.
