MIAMI, FL – The ACLU of Florida, Advancement Project, and the Florida State Conference of the NAACP released a report today on their study of the ongoing harmful impacts of Florida schools’ “zero-tolerance” policies. The study, entitled “Still Haven’t Shut Off the School-to-Prison Pipeline: Evaluating the Impact of Florida’s New Zero-Tolerance Law,” shows that although the state took a significant step forward by amending its harsh zero-tolerance law in 2009, meaningful reform has still not reached most of the schools – and students – across the state.

In light of recent media reports of systemic vote suppression efforts in Pennsylvania, Texas and elsewhere, Advancement Project has prepared summaries of the key state and federal laws that can be used to combat intimidation, challenges, deceptive practices and other tactics that disrupt the voting process and discourage voting. Advancement Project Urges Florida Election Officials to Ensure Voters are not Disenfranchised by Database Errors

With early voting underway and Election Day less than a week away, Advancement Project, a leading voter protection organization, is urging Florida election officials to ensure that thousands of eligible Florida voters are not needlessly disenfranchised by typos and other mistakes in an error-ridden matching process. In a letter to county supervisors of elections, the civil rights group says that voters caught in the web of the state’s so called “no-match, no vote” law should be able to present identification that resolves the discrepancy at the polls and cast a regular ballot.
