Advancement Project is publishing an updated version of its “Virginia Civil Rights Restoration Guide" to assist disenfranchised people, their families and friends, community leaders, and volunteers with navigating the restoration process. It is the first of a series of community tools offered by Advancement Project to support community members’ efforts to restore their civil rights. As a supplement to the guide, Advancement Project will also offer training for community groups on how to undergo the process starting in January 2012.

On October 15, 2009, the government will release the first quarterly round of spending data from
the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (“ARRA”). The data disclosed will be for federal
contracts awarded from the ARRA, and will specifically publicize the jobs created by these
contracts. The data will be reported on www.recovery.gov. Much more data will be released on
October 30th.

The Schoolhouse to Jailhouse action kit is aimed at helping advocates organize campaigns against the over use of zero tolerance school discipline and the growing reliance on police and juvenile courts as disciplinarians.
