What's Wrong With This Picture

Jesse Jackson told a group of us convened for the Election Verification Network conference in Chicago recently, “We brag about our democracy, but scheme to undermine it.” Indeed, equality is elusive. Record turnout of Black and Brown voters in the 2008 General Elections, along with census data showing the population of non-Whites rising fast, offer a glimmer of hope that the interests of people of color could more readily be heard in a nation fraught with a history of schemes silencing their voices.
